Preppy home style is back for 2024! It features some throwback aspects, like plaid and muted colors, but it’s updated and fresh, with new touches that give it a modern appeal.

Prep wouldn’t be prep without plaid. Whether you stick with traditional muted plaid or go for something bold and bright, a preppy home wouldn’t be complete without plaid. Checkerboard is big this year, too, so maybe add something in that style.

The warmth and dignity brown leather brings to a space can’t be overstated. An accent chair or an ottoman would be a perfect way to add this luxurious look to your preppy space.

Prep is all about a sense of heritage. Antiques (or fake antiques) are a terrific way to give your home a preppy look. You don’t have to spend a lot on an 18th-century bookcase, however. Just an accent piece here and there will be enough for a timeless vibe.
Corduroy is 100% prepster, and you can add it with upholstered furniture, or maybe just a couple of throw pillows. Another possibility: a corduroy lampshade!

Deep, rich colors like greens, blues, and browns, paired with timeless neutrals like tan and cream will bring a preppy vibe to your space. Toss in a mint-green checkerboard throw pillow to modernize the look.

Books are often used as decor, and the preppy look welcomes this old standby. Choose leatherbound (or pleather-bound) books in black, brown and red. Deep orange would be good here, too. Stack them flat, or arrange them on a shelf as you would in a library.
For lighthearted relief from the heaviness that can bog down overdone preppy style, mix in another of 2024’s style trends—ribbons and bows. Stick with the rich, deep color palette or shake things up with a spot of light blue.
